Living in New York we are blessed with so much culture and entertainment. Theater is no exception. Whether musicals or one man shows, the Theater District in New York City is always a great experience. My husband and I recently enjoyed the action packed creation of King Kong on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre.
After seeing all of the King Kong movies, nothing prepared us for the amazing spectacle of King Kong on Broadway. After seeing projections of open seas and city skylines, we thought it would be another movie rendition of a giant ape screaming at the top of his lungs as actors and actresses sing on stage. To our surprise, we sat in awe as the massive 20-foot-tall, 2000-pound ape named King Kong came alive on stage. It was incredible! His well-choreographed movements and facial expressions will truly make you feel that he is alive.
The leading lady, Ann Darrow (Christiani Pitts) sets out on a long journey to Skull Island with filmmaker Carl Denham (Eric William Morris) after being discovered in a restaurant in NYC. Set during the 1930’s, during the great depression, Ann and Carl end up on Skull Island where they encounter the giant ape. Without giving too much away, this is definitely a play where you have to see it for yourself.
Amazing animatronics and puppetry by Director Drew McOnie (and team), score by Marius de Vries and songs by Eddie Perfect provide you with a well thought out adventure of man vs beast. You honestly have to see it to believe it!
