These sugar cookies have become a family tradition of ours. They are delicious and are always a party hit. Hope you enjoy them as well.
Ingredients:
6 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cup unsalted butter, softened (4 Sticks of Butter)
1 3/4 cup sugar (or less depending on how sweet you want them)
2 eggs, beaten
2 tablespoon milk
Powdered sugar, for rolling out dough
Recipe makes apx. 6 dozen
Directions for the Dough:
- Mix together flour, baking powder and salt
- In a separate large bowl, add in the butter and sugar and mix until light in color
- Add in egg and milk and turn on your mixer on the lowest setting
- Mix in flour and continue mixing until the dough is no longer sticking to the bowl
- Remove dough from mixer and divide into 4 parts (rolled balls), wrap them in waxed paper and freeze for 1 hour
Baking:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
- On a cold surface (granite countertops work best), sprinkle powdered sugar and roll out dough to ¼ inch thick (or less) – It is important to work the dough when it is cold, if the dough becomes room temperature or warms after sitting out, place back in refrigerator to reset
- Cut dough into desired cookie shapes
- Place cut outs on a greased baking sheet about 1/2 inch apart
- Bake for 7 minutes or until the edges look like they are beginning to turn brown
- Let sit for two minutes and then place cookies on a wire cooling rack
Icing and Sprinkles (optional):
- Mix together 1 cup of powdered sugar, a ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of milk
- Add in additional teaspoon(s) of milk to ensure mixture is not too thick to spread on cookies
- Spread icing generously 😉 and sprinkle to taste
